If you’re looking for ways to keep cold and flu symptoms at bay this winter, turn to the products of the hive!

Bees create honey, of course, which has numerous health benefits – many of which are especially helpful during the cold weather. But there are other products made by the honey bee that can give us special help during the cold winter months.

Our raw propolis is made by honey bees as they collect the resins of various trees and flower buds. The bees use this wax-like compound to repair damage to the hive and sanitize their home. Some studies suggest that propolis can shorten the duration of a cold and reduce the severity of symptoms. Our propolis tincture is very helpful as well for the sore throats that can come with upper respiratory infections.

Sore throats can also be eased with some of our wildflower honey added to hot tea, or our delicious honey candy. We also have lip balm made from olive oil, beeswax and various flavorings that soothe the dry, cracked lips that can come with the cold, dry weather. We highly recommend our Lip Protector lip balm for the winter months, as it includes zinc oxide and vitamin E.

And don’t forget to stay hydrated during the cold weather, when reduced thirst sensation and dry indoor air can take a toll. Our honey lemonade – a simple combination of honey, lemons, and water – is a healthy choice for making sure you get plenty of fluids throughout the season.
