When most people think of the beehive, they think of raw honey, beeswax, and bee pollen. But there is another remarkable substance bees produce that is gaining serious attention in the natural wellness world: propolis, also known as bee glue.
“According to published research available through the National Institutes of Health, propolis contains flavonoids and phenolic compounds known for antioxidant and antimicrobial properties.”
At Hunter’s Honey Farm, we carefully harvest propolis straight from our hives and offer it in multiple forms so you can experience its powerful health benefits firsthand.
What Is Propolis?
Propolis is a resin-like substance that honey bees create by collecting sap and resins from trees and shrubs. Bees mix these plant resins with beeswax and enzymes from their saliva to form a sticky, antimicrobial compound.

Inside the hive, propolis plays a critical role.
Bees use it to:
• Seal cracks and gaps in the hive
• Strengthen structural stability
• Sterilize and sanitize the hive
• Protect against bacteria, fungi, and viruses
In fact, propolis helps keep the hive one of the cleanest natural environments on earth.
How We Harvest Propolis from the Hive
To collect propolis without harming the colony, we use specially designed propolis traps. These are flexible screens with narrow slats placed inside the hive.
Because bees instinctively seal small openings, they fill the slats with propolis.
Once the traps are full:
- We remove them carefully from the hive.
- We freeze the traps to harden the propolis.
- The propolis easily pops out in small raw pieces.
The result is pure, raw propolis straight from the hive, just as the bees made it.

Propolis Holistic Benefits
Propolis has been used for centuries in traditional medicine. Modern research shows it contains over 500 beneficial compounds, including flavonoids, phenolic acids, and powerful antioxidants.
Key Benefits of Propolis:
• Natural immune system support
• Antioxidant protection against free radicals
• Anti-inflammatory properties
• Supports oral health and reduces mouth infections
• Helps soothe sore throats
• Promotes wound healing
Because of its antimicrobial properties, propolis is often called “nature’s antibiotic.” Many people use it daily as part of their natural immune support routine.
